What are your credentials?
I am a registered member of the NCH, CNHC and NSPsy and hold the Advanced Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy as well as the Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma. I have enhanced DBS clearance and am a full member of the International Hypnotherapy Association.
Can I be hypnotised?
Anyone can enter an altered state of awareness, or trance. Have you ever noticed that feeling just before you fall asleep? Or arrived at a destination and not remembered the journey? These are natural states of hypnosis that we all experience every day.
Can I attend online, and will it work the same?
Yes, and yes! Online hypnotherapy is now commonplace and just as effective as face-to-face sessions. I work with clients both in person and online via Zoom — whichever suits you best.
Will I fall asleep?
The aim of hypnotherapy is not to put you to sleep — although it can sometimes happen, and this doesn't detract from the effectiveness of the therapy at all. The brain remains active even during sleep and continues to register sensory input, which is why a loud noise can wake you instantly.
Will I remember anything from the session?
Yes. You will remain fully aware throughout the session and will remember everything. We'll discuss what came up together at the end of each appointment.
Will I remain in control?
Absolutely. It's important to understand that this is clinical hypnotherapy — not stage hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything against your will. Only a very small proportion of the population can enter the kind of deep trance used in stage shows, and even those individuals remain in full control and could bring themselves out of it at any moment.
Does hypnotherapy work — and can you fix my problem?
It certainly does work and is backed by a substantial body of research, with many documented cases demonstrating real benefit across a wide range of issues. My commitment to you is to facilitate the change you need to achieve the outcome you're looking for. As with any therapeutic approach, there are no absolute guarantees — progress depends on how well we work together and how fully you engage with the process. What I can promise is my complete focus and care throughout.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy can be effective for a wide range of issues, including:
Anxiety and stress — reducing symptoms and managing triggers
Phobias — diminishing irrational fears
Pain management — including chronic pain, childbirth and surgical recovery
Smoking cessation — breaking habits and reducing cravings
Weight management — changing eating behaviours and improving motivation (I offer VirtueBand® virtual gastric band therapy)
Sleep disorders — including insomnia and bruxism
Confidence and self-esteem — enhancing self-perception
Trauma and PTSD
Addiction
What are the benefits of hypnotherapy?
Non-invasive — no drugs or physical interventions involved
Self-empowering — you'll learn techniques to use outside of sessions
Complementary — works well alongside other treatments and therapies
Is hypnotherapy right for me?
The clients who get the most from hypnotherapy tend to share a few things in common:
Openness — a willingness to engage honestly with the process
Trust — choosing a trained, certified practitioner (that's where I come in!)
Clear goals — a sense of what you'd like to achieve, even if it's just "I want to feel better"
